Families And Babies - Skills Development

After a family focused few months off from my role as a breast feeding peer supporter, a fantastic skills development morning yesterday was just what I needed 😊

It was lovely to to see everyone and great to meet our new area coordinator Cheryl Hixson-Ward.

We had a very informative session with Elizabeth Carter IBCLC covering indicators of supply, how to use a supplemental nursing system, using an elastic band to visualise tongue tie, exaggerated latch, the effects of artificial teats on the developing jaw, and the effects of expressing and storage on colostrum.

This was followed by a brilliantly engaging session with Lucy Ruddle IBCLC covering the value of emotional support and the importance of listening well and communicating clearly. We shared experiences, role played, and I was even allowed to hit someone on the head with a mallet -fun times! 😁

Thankyou to the organisers and I'm looking forward to using my updated skills at group soon.

If you or someone you know is pregnant or has a baby and is interested in breastfeeding then please do come along. There is a FAB support group running in south/west Dorset everyday of the week
